the vintage collection
Old charmers from the 50’s and 60’s — restored, rubber-bridged, and reinspired, the Mood way. When they’re gone, they’re gone.
Here’s a one-of-a-kind rubber bridge conversion — we picked this guitar up on a road trip years ago and I finally got around to giving it all the TLC needed to bring it to good playing condition.
The neck was stripped and featured a huge V profile that was uncomfortable and unplayable, so I reshaped the neck into a more normal feel and refinished it to match the rest of the guitar. The body also had a failed attempt at a pickup install and I properly routed the hole to accommodate a mini-humbucker. I made a custom pickup mount and adjusted the pickguard to work with the new pickup mount. This guitar is a 25” scale length and the action feels really easy to play up the entire neck thanks to a custom rubber bridge I made from a recycled ebony piano key. The saddle is compensated to give better intonation than most other rubber bridge guitars.
I specifically wound a mini-humbucker to suit this guitar and assembled a versatile tone circuit that suits most playing styles. The volume knob cycles between a treble bleed circuit with a push-pull knob — the tone knob functions as a normal treble-cut tone knob with a bass-cut on its pull function. Also, I used some hard-to-find Harmony black cupcake knobs to match the aesthetic.

DROPPED IN SMALL BATCHES
This is fairly similar to some of our popular 60’s rubber bridge conversions we have done in the past.
It does feature a slightly updated pickup design that is more dialed-in to bring out the perfect rubber bridge tone. I performed a neck reset on this guitar that allowed the right break angle for the rubber bridge to work best. This is our old-school tone circuit that gives you volume and bass-cuts with the option of fully bypassing the entire tone circuit to give you that “pickup wired directly to output jack” sound. Instead of increasing the cost with Kluson tuners, we sourced some good-working vintage tuners from our collection that are similar to what was originally on it (the original ones we unusable). The body also had a crack in it, but I treated it and glued it back into place.
